I'm sure most of us have heard of Bitcoin. It seems everyone is talking about it. Regretting not taking it seriously sooner.
I talked to my neighbor last night, and like everyone I speak to, I share the amazing creation called bitcoin with him months ago.
He said the guys at work were talking about bitcoin, and how it reached an all time high of 2,300 CAD this past week, and they feel like they missed out. He said they were talking about what they could invest in, like bitcoin, to make them rich. The coin Ether (Ethereum) came up, as well as hemp stocks. It can be very motivating, and give people hope to see that if they had just payed attention, and invested 100 dollars a short time ago, they would now be millionaires.
It has grown from being worth $0 to being worth over $100 within its first two years. It was being given out, because nobody had any knowledge of its potential. Because people are hesitant to be the first person to invest in something new, and different. But it has been a gold rush for those who act on their intuition, and now, an algorithm, an idea, a tool to change the world, is more valuable than gold.
It goes to show the strength of this idea. And when most people thought it was a phase, a trend that would die down, are now regretting not buying some. Sometimes we need to have faith, sometimes we dont know as much as we think we do. Now bitcoins are worth more than gold coins.
One of the first benchmarks, was when the CIA had asked some people working on bitcoin in its early days, that talked to each other over online forums to come to CIA headquarters, o do a speak, on the new idea, and code. The creator, who had an unknown identity, had asked some people online to perform tasks, and one of them agreed to speak with the CIA. This goes to show, the threat it held to our current financial system, and power structure.
The creator shied away from online forums after that, and the name he used, was never seen online again. But the process was already complete, and bitcoins were being given out, 10,000 at a time, to help circulate the new currency.
Then in 2009, somebody, as a joke, or out of curiosity agreed to buy somebody a pizza, and have it delivered for 10,000 bitcoins, being a big benchmark, marking bitcoins first perceived value, making it now worth something, now having a value of about 2 cents.
There have been many attempts to track down this mysterious man who had this genius, and revolutionary idea.
Satoshi Nakamoto, was the name he used.
But each lead, lead to a dead end. Some think it was created by Extra-terrestrials, to help free our race from financial enslavement ans corrupt banking systems, and others believe it was the government, trying to take away physical currency. Both have enough circumstantial evidence to give a healthy debate.
Whoever it was, they made an effort to not be known, and it seems we never will know, at least not any time soon. But this had to be done for bitcoin to work properly. An anonymous dollar, needs an anonymous creator, and nobody to arrest, bribe, or no central headquarter to destroy.
The code runs on all our computers, (all who use bitcoin) so if they want to destroy it, they must destroy the internet. Even then, people can have bitcoins stored on external devices, you can print them onto a paper wallet, hold them on a USB stick, or buy a physical bitcoin, and load it with your money. It is the closest thing to an immortal currency we have.
We have overcome many hurdles. The governments resistance, and Mainstream Media's propaganda to bash bitcoin, only stopped once it reached such a high price, that they had to eat their words. We even had people being arrested for their involvement in bitcoin related companies, (Charlie Shrem) the hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto, its creator, and regulations being passed, to make it more difficult to start a bitcoin business, in some areas like Wall street, where people have too much invested interest in stocks, to let bitcoin join, and steal their thunder.
But this is always the case with something so new and advanced. People are afraid of, and resist change. But thankfully this stage is well behind us, and bitcoins price is the proof of it.
